We ran out of cash AND out of tickets and had to completely improvise for the masses. We were used to the amphitheater shows getting 2,000 people in one week, and suddenly we had 4,000 people all in one night, and they all needed some of that sweet, sweet pumpkin to spice up their life. To our shock, people did come, in a massive wave of pumpkin-lusting madness. But we really didn’t know what to expect. Working in the box office on that first night, we thought “surely, some people have to come”. I was an intern at the Iroquois Amphitheatre, where the Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular trail is located, way back in 2012 when the event was first brought here from Massachusetts, and I worked the event for two years!Īll those years ago when we were first creating the event, we weren’t sure if anyone would even show up… Would this event be worth all the effort to set it up? What makes me a Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular insider? The check-in desk at the Dead & Breakfast Inn! Ahh, I love a good travel pun. Note: We are in no way affiliated with the Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular. Well, you’re in luck: I worked the event for two years, and I’m here to answer all your questions and so you can have a truly spectacular time! It’s the most special Halloween event in Louisville, and one of the best ways to celebrate fall in Kentucky!īut if you’ve never attended the event before – or you’re just hoping to avoid the crowds and lines – you probably have lots of questions. I can’t tell you how incredibly magical it is to take a glittering candle-lit walk through thousands of impeccably carved pumpkins, all built together to form larger-than-life works of art. It’s just the right combination of nighttime fun, the Halloween spirit, and artistry! It’s great fun for kids, your mom, and for me, a 30-something-year-old Millennial who likes pumpkins and art and is too scared to go into haunted houses. If you can imagine it, they’ve probably carved it into a pumpkin!Īnd the best part? This is a fun, non-spooky Halloween activity that’s legitimately enjoyable for everyone and all ages. Many of the pumpkins carvings are extremely detailed and feature everything from the Muppets, to Muhammad Ali, to the Wizard of Oz. The Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular in Louisville, Kentucky combines 5,000+ illuminated pumpkins with more than 100 pumpkins carved and crafted into works of art along a ⅓ mile trail. It’s officially spooky season, y’all! And here in Louisville and that means one thing: The Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular!
